Established in 1927 by brothers Charles and Harry Stout, our family-owned business has evolved from a humble upholstery shop in Philadelphia into a renowned global provider of exceptional interior furnishings.

In 2013, we introduced Marcus William — a high-end, contemporary line of fabrics and trimmings designed to bring modern luxury to interiors. In 2019, we expanded our portfolio by acquiring the legacy brand Bassett McNab, known for its iconic traditional fabrics and wallcoverings, further enriching our offerings for designers seeking timeless elegance.

1927
Charles and Harry Stout establish Stout Brothers Co, Inc. in the heart of Philadelphia. Originally a supplier of upholstery tools and hardware, the company quickly pivoted to meet the rising demand for interior furnishings. With a keen eye for design trends and a commitment to quality, Stout laid the foundation for what would become a multi-generational legacy.
1950s
As the second generation steps in, Stout begins to expand beyond the Philadelphia region. Stober Stout Jr. and Jack Greenawalt bring fresh vision and leadership, refining the company’s product focus toward decorative fabrics—particularly drapery textiles—to align with the growing interior design market.
1960s – 70s
With rapid growth underway, Stout moves into larger spaces multiple times, each expansion doubling capacity. National distribution gains momentum, and the company fully transitions from its original hardware roots into a full-fledged fabric house, specializing in decorative textiles for both residential and commercial interiors.
1979
To better serve designers across the central and western United States, Stout acquires Cleveland-based fabric company S.J. Battler. This strategic acquisition improves shipping logistics and enhances the company’s footprint in key markets, strengthening its position as a nationwide fabric distributor.
1990s
As interior design aesthetics evolve, Stout embraces a more elevated and curated product line to meet the needs of high-end designers. The company expands into international sourcing, opens new showroom locations, and begins offering more exclusive textiles, setting the stage for a new era of luxury-focused design.
2013
The launch of Marcus William marks a milestone for Stout. Created to celebrate modern sophistication, the line features richly constructed fabrics in bold colors and textures, sourced through a global network of premier textile mills. Marcus William quickly becomes a go-to for contemporary glamour.
2019
In a meaningful blend of tradition and innovation, Stout acquires Bassett McNab, a historic textile brand dating back to 1894. Known for timeless florals and heritage patterns, Bassett McNab is revitalized under Stout's direction—offering updated classics for today's discerning designer.

Nearly a century since its founding, Stout continues to evolve. Now led by the fourth generation, the company remains focused on innovation, authenticity, and artistry—releasing fresh, inspired collections each season and honoring the legacy of craftsmanship that started it all in 1927.
